LUCKY & UNLUCKY FOODS ON NEW YEARS EVE

LUCK FOODS FIRST

1. Rounded Fruits

Of course circular or rounded fruits represents a never ending healthy lifestyle all year long  as well as colorful life full of joy and luckiness. Fruits are sweet and its shape apprehend money in Chinese culture.

Its vitamins and minerals represents all the element like metal for iron, water for the combination of hydrogen and oxygen, acids to immune your body to certain diseases like cough and flu and many more.
In the Philippine culture, families must complete or serve 12 types of rounded fruits during the Christmas Eve (Medya Noche). The culture says that the 12 rounded fruits will serve as prosperity and healthy living during the 12 months of the year. Some requires 13 types of fruits as they omit the grapes because many Pinoys preseve their grapes and put in near the entrance of their houses to push away bad luck or absorb in during the year as the grape will turn from violet to black as  the year pushes its days.

2. Rice Cake Delicacies (Palutang or Palitaw)

Rice cake is the best choice for New Years Eve. My mother never forgot to add once to our Medya Noche list. One of the Philippine native rice cake is what we called Palutang o Palitwa. It is made from rice flour mixed up with a little bit of water, shaped by the makers palm to be circular and was soaked in a boiling pot of water with Pandan leaves. You'll know that is its already cooked when it floats in the boiling water.
I love seeing my mom cook this meal because it simple but it amazes everybody in the house including our visitors special the children and my cousins. Pinoys says that it makes the family's lives float or delivers your fortune at the top of the game or competitions. Another is that it holds the family members together as it sticks to the eaters mouth. It's not sweet but it will become sweet because of Paldo - brown natural sugar in the Philippines. added up with shredded coconut meat or nyog. Of course it is also round for it signifies never ending or infinity of family's unity.

3. Meat - Ham (Hamon)

Ham or Hamon de Bola is the most expensive piece of food in the new years eve table because suppliers rapidly increase their prices as demand explodes a great outburst of buyers. But it is worth it to serve a ham in the table cause if my taste buds says it right, Philippine ham are awesome. Since birth Ham was the most stunning new year food in my list. It delivers firmness, strength and wealth for the family. Love and sincerity also venture on this food as sweet love fills your stomach cause the caramelize sugar and honey glaze with pine apple sauce kicks in.
The meat is also red that's why chinese says that it is lucky and the tissues and muscles of the ham will fuel the families power all through out the year.

4. Noodles (Pancit, Spaghetti and etc.)

Noodles for long life.. Spaghetti, Pancit canton, bihon, malabon, mike, habhab, puso, luglog , ubod, except pancit - pancitan guys are the most extravagant recipe this new year cause it wont only bring you fortune and good will but also the longest life that you'll ever them off.  Pancit in the Philippines has so many vegnetables thats why it will power up your health as well. Yum yum yum. I really love pancit specially pancit ubod because it has so many pork and chicaron team up with the sour taste of vinegar. Yum3x. Chinese says that we should eat  long strands of noodles this new years eve without breaking the stands while putting it into our mouth cause breaking it would shorten you fortune and life as well.

5. A Warm Glass of Water

Lucky list number 5 includes water. Water is life and water comprises our body. Without this liquid substance we don't exist in this world. The myth says everything about the water including the bible. A single glass of warm water will help you pass by the year of the water snake without any exhausted scenes this year. It will keep you going in every jobs you want to apply, in every competition you wanna win and in every journey you've ever been. Clarity and focus in life will stimulate your body as the minerals from water washes of your problems and struggles. It will tame the beast in you that is thirsty of all the evil and it will cleanse your soul with passion and extensive wisdom. It's like making your goal really clear and easily be seen. Since it is the year of the water snake, you could easily pass by this year if you situated warm water in your table. It needs to be warm cause snake don't like cold water as they are warm blooded and their tongues thermal senses will be much more effective with the help of the warm water during the cold seasons. Oh before I forgot, put the water in a container that is transparent like what you see in the picture to enhance clarity and composure at all times.

UNLUCKY FOOD OR WHATS NOT TO SERVE THIS NEW YEARS EVE

1. Crabs

Oh I love Eugene.. Old and new Mr. Eugene Crabs a.k.a MR. CRABS in Sponge Bob Square Pants  Crabs signifies their mentality or in other term shows " if I can't have it, then no body will". Shell fish are a no! no! this new years eve. I don't want to kill crab business this new years eve that's why I updated my blog exactly 8 pm where crab vendors are all done selling their products. Crabs might attract bad luck because of its attitude that wants to own everything. Crabs could easily escape from the pot, but instead, they grab at each other in a useless "king of the hill" competition which prevents any from escaping and ensures their collective demise. It's hard shells exemplifies the hard capabilities to move forward and hard time to escape its bad attitudes. Shu away bad luck, shu away Mr. Crabs just for today. Sorry Mr. Crabs.

2. Chicken

Litson Manok, chicke inasan, chicken tinola, chicken adobo or any other chicken dish are a no! no! this new years eve cause it will bring you Misfortune  Hard labor days, Mishaps and Money will fly away from you. You will have hard time finding good fortune and bad luck will chase you down. Pinoy love chicken that's why it is hard to put it way to our system specially this holiday season but chinese says it and Pinoy's has their own way of saying it with the phrase: "Isang Kahid, Isang tuka". A famous quote that signifies tremendous way of living and having long and exhausting way for searching food. Eating just once a day but working for the whole day. The chickens wing are a sign of escape but a different kind of escape because chicken's don't stay long on air. Flying means that your blessing will be taken away from you easily or you may have win a lottery but all of it will be gone easily.

You may or may not take it. Its just an advice ^^

MAY TINIS 2012

Like many other traditions, the origin of Maytinis is shrouded in mystery, no one knows exactly when or how it started. But it is commonly believed that the Maytinis cannot be less than three centuries old, since the Kawit Church itself was built around 370 years ago. The most common belief as to how the MAYTINIS begun is that it was probably started by the Spanish Priests to facilitate the natives' understanding of the Catholic Religion. Kawit, three centuries ago, could very well be a preliterate society made up of simple folk who can only deal with practical things. Thus, there was a great need for presenting the religious teachings and constructs by the use of what is visible, and the festival called MAYTINIS answered this need.

The MAYTINIS is essentially a portrayal of the history of mankind's salvation, from the Old to the New Testaments. A procession is held in which various Biblical scenes and characters are portrayed by means of picturesque floats.

The responsibility of organizing the annual MAYTINIS celebration rests on the shoulders of the Confradia de Sagrada Familia in cooperation and coordination with the Pastoral Council.

The Confradia choose the "AMA" (Hermano Mayor) and the "INA" (Hermana Mayora) for the year who acts as the principal sponsors of the "MAYTINIS" festival.

Normally the floats started with Adam and Eve. The whole activity focuses on the birth of Baby Jesus Christ. The parade features many biblical characters such as David, Goliath, Moses and others. The holy couple is the main attraction. The parade also evolves with the change of time. During the 1986 revolution, some floats tell the story of how the rebel soldiers topple the Marcos government and seated Cory Aquino into power.

The town elected the hermana/hermano mayor every year. The hermana mayor is a sort of chairman of the activity. Each barangay was given a permanent float assignment. Our barangay always prepare the Adam and Eve float ever since I can remember.

Maytinis is held annually, every December 24 at around 8pm. The parade usually starts at the barangay where the hermana leaves and always end in Saint Mary Magdalene Parish Church in the heart of the town.
